The problem

Every year, more than 3.5 million tons of pesticides are used in global agriculture, and about a third of these are fungicides. Half of these fungicides are synthetic chemicals that contaminate our environment and harm biodiversity. Despite the widespread use of fungicides, farmers still experience yield losses caused by fungal infections. Take corn in the US as an example: depending on weather conditions, 2% to 15% of the yield is lost each year due to fungal infections. Just 2% of the corn produced in the US can feed more than 70 million people for an entire year.

The solution

Grow crops with natural resistance! We develop crops that possess natural resistance to fungal infections, enabling fungicide-free agriculture. By minimizing the use of chemical pesticides, we significantly decrease the environmental impact of agriculture, preserve drinking water, protect biodiversity, and prevent the development of resistant fungi that can affect humans and animals. Additionally, our food safety is enhanced as growing crops with inherent resistance ensures that no fungal-produced toxins enter the food chain.

Sustainability

Minimizing fungicide use supports several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our solution also aligns perfectly with the EU 'Farm to Fork' strategy by enabling sustainable food production. The 'Farm to Fork' strategy is at the heart of the European Green Deal, aiming to make food systems fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly.
